  • Who can become a member of Gateway Cooperative Credit Union (2017) Ltd?
  • Persons living, working or studying in the Cornwall region, of sound mind and reputable character
  • What are the requirements to open an account?
  • Two (2) most current utility bills in your name, or two (2) reference forms completed signed and stamped; (1) by a JP and the other by an active GATEWAYJA member or a Minister of Religion along with a valid ID and TRN. The minimum deposit is $2,800.00.
  • What is the Permanent Share?
  • Your Permanent Share is an investment in your Credit Union. You cannot withdraw your investment without terminating your membership in the Credit Union. However, your Permanent Share will be returned to you if you close your Credit Union account.
  • What special saving plan can I open?
  • The Golden Harvest Savings Plan is a savings protection plan which helps you achieve your goals. Members 16-65 years can save towards any specific goal and get higher returns on your money. Your total goal is insured at no direct cost to you. Get up to $4m in FREE insurance.
  • What is the Family Indemnity Plan (FIP)?
  • The FIP is an insurance coverage for up to six (6) family members on a single contract paying cash benefit, which can be used to cover the funeral expenses for you and your loved ones at a very affordable premium. No medical questions are asked and no medical certificate required. Maximum individual coverage is $1,000.000.00
  • What does beneficiary means?
  • A beneficiary is the person you have designated to receive your funds in the Credit Union in the event of your death.
  • What types of loans are offered at GATEWAY?
  • Loans are granted for all your needs throughout every phase of your life. GATEWAY boasts the unique advantage of offering a Student Loan facility whereby, a moratorium is granted to full-time students for the course of study and a further (6) months grace period after completion.
  • How long does it take for a loan to be approved?
  • It takes from 15 minutes up to 72 hours for approval. However, a longer period is required for the processing and approval of mortgage and business loans.
  • Can I access my account or pay my bills online?
  • This facility is not yet available for our members. It is in the pipeline to be rolled out in the very near future.
  • What are GATEWAY’s opening hours?
  • Our opening hours at all locations (Sam Sharpe, Church Street and Lucea) are:

    8:30 am to 3:00 pm Monday to Thursday

    8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Fridays.
  • Does Gateway offer Debit Card and where can it be used?
  • Yes, Gateway offers the Access Plus Debit Card. Your Debit Card can be used at any Point of Sale (POS) location and at Multilink ATMS Island-wide. However, deposits should only be done at Gateway's ATM, 6 Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay (Lucea coming soon) and at other CREDIT UNION ATMs.
  • Does the Credit Union pay interest on my money?
  • Yes. Interest is paid on all your saving instruments and, based on the performance of your Credit Union, an annually dividend is also paid.
  • Does Gateway offer joint accounts?
  • Yes, there are more than one options to add someone to your account. For additional information, please speak with a Member Service Representative.
